Home Manager dual role with Cedarwood House
Lucy has been working in care for nearly 10 years and the last 9 years of that she has been a Senior Carer. She has a National Vocational Qualification in Care at Level 2 and 3 and Level 5 in Leadership and Management. Lucy has worked for Cedars Care Group since joining in March 2014 and has been the Manager since March 2015.
Lucy is very passionate about dementia care. ‘We try varied techniques to engage and stimulate our residents,’ says Lucy, who actively engages all the staff at Cedarwood House and the Derwent in promoting good practice within the home. Her mission: to significantly improve the quality of life of our dementia residents.
‘It isn’t uncommon for us to meet new residents who have a history of isolation,’ explains Lucy, ‘or challenging behaviour due to their dementia. Yet within a few weeks we find ourselves engaging with that resident and have begun to make a marked and positive difference to their life! Nothing makes me happier than when we have such a breakthrough. Those are the times when I can leave at the end of the day with a smile on my face.’
Lucy’s vision for both Cedarwood House Care Home and Derwent Care Home is for them to be the best they can possibly be, ‘and for us to continue to change with the times to provide the highest standard of care,’ she says. She is confident that her team will achieve this. ‘Working for Cedars Care Group means that we always have full support from the other homes and we are all a part of the team.’
Georgina has been in the care sector for nearly 5 years, working her way up from Health Care Assistant to Coordinator and then management. She has a National Vocational Qualification in Care at Level 3 and is currently completing Level 5 in Leadership and Management. Georgina has worked for Cedars Care Group since joining in June 2017 as the Deputy Manager.
“After many years of living with a relative with Alzheimer’s disease I came to realise my true passion for care,” Georgina explains. “My dedication to making a difference is what drives me to excel and provide the best to our residents. Continuing with my education and always learning means I can educate other staff members and enjoy feedback as we improve together. Seeing happy residents, happy family members and friends makes it all worthwhile. Knowing their loved ones are cared for exactly how they would care for them themselves, gives me great pride to work for Cedars Care Group.”
“Working for Cedars Care Group means that we always have full support from the other homes and we are all a part of the team. With our sister home, Cedarwood House, we are working together to improve resident’s quality of life.”
