Derwent Care Home

Welcome home to true care for elderly residents and people living with dementia, in St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex.

At Derwent, we’ve created a comfortable environment conducive to improving quality of life in a beautiful property that retains its old charm and character. Once the Derwent Hotel, this Victorian building has been lovingly renovated to a high standard and equipped to cater for all our residents’ needs.

Derwent has 33 en suite bedrooms with high ceilings, stylish decor and quality furnishings. Our communal areas are where residents put their feet up in the company of others and/or join in social activities. These include a spacious Lounge Room, which overlooks the garden, and the bright and airy Dining Room. Outside, our verdant garden boasts a fishpond and raised flowerbeds. Here, residents with green fingers enjoy nurturing flowers, picking seasonal fruits or just enjoying the birdsong and fresh air.

Our home has an in-house hair dressing salon where residents benefit from regular grooming and pampering by a dedicated hairstylist who visits weekly. Dedicated staff are always on hand to guide activities and assist with individual needs.

Derwent is one of two Cedars Care Group homes based in East Sussex. The other is Cedarwood House.

Activities for Body & Mind

At Derwent, we have a dedicated activities coordinator, who ensures that varied and interesting daily activities promote wellbeing and purpose among our residents. Each of our residents also have a ‘This is Me’ profile, drawn up when they first arrive. This is Me profiles keep us aware of a resident’s existing hobbies, skills, and interests. They also guide us when we are introducing residents to something new. Find out More

We believe that every individual has his/her own story to tell. At Cedars Care Group homes, we make it our business to get to know the people we care for by spending time with them. Remembering past achievements and the good old days, often helps to maintain a sense of self and fulfilment.

Family visits and family involvement are vital to the wellbeing of our residents. That’s why we aim to provide an environment that’s comfortable and invigorating for both residents and their visitors. Our planned activities and events are key opportunities for family participation and support. While the option of privacy is always available.

Personal Space & Personalised Care

Familiarity and reminiscence is invaluable. It keeps us connected with life; can ease the transition into care; and is helpful in improving memory skills. At Derwent Care Home, all our residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with small belongings and photographs. This makes a world of difference and encourages a sense of belonging.

We offer different types of care depending on the level of support required. These include Residential Care, Respite Care and specialised care for dementia and Alzheimer’s. Each resident receives personalised support in accordance with his/her individual care plan, under the supervision of a dedicated home manager.

At Derwent we actively seek feedback. It helps us ensure our care home continues to offer the highest quality support and care, tailored to the needs of our individual residents. Leave Feedback
