Welcome to our Sensory Garden at Winscombe Hall
On a very windy Sunday, the Spitfires and Tornados Cubs & Beavers pack from Locking joined us at Winscombe Hall to help transform our courtyard as was:
into a #SensoryGarden for our residents. We had a fantastic day building raised herb beds, planting hanging baskets, putting up wall art, bird feeders and wind chimes. At lunch time we were all treated to bbq hot dogs in the courtyard which was followed by an Easter Egg hunt in and around the gardens and woodlands – with 30 Cubs & Beavers – that was a lot of choccie eggs to find!!. By the end of the day the courtyard was transformed into a welcoming, comfortable and colourful #SensoryGarden that is fully accessible for all of our residents. The raised beds mean that our residents can partake in tending the vegetable and herb garden if they want to.
The Cub & Beavers pack have pledged to continue to visit us, to help with the sensory garden but also to use the grounds for camping, nature projects and to spend time chatting to our residents. The Spitfires and Tornados are a lovely and very welcome addition to our family at The Winscombe Hall.
A HUGE thank you to #LockingBeavers&Cubs for making the courtyard their ‘Community Project’. Also thanks to the following organisations and people for supporting our project:
The staff & relatives of #WinscombeHall
Everyone above responded to the #WestonMercuryAppeal article. Without their kindness our courtyard would not have come to life. Our residents had a fabulous day watching the #SensoryGarden appear before their eyes. They now have a beautiful space for peace, relaxation, gardening, meeting friends and family….what ever they choose to do with their courtyard. After everyone left I spent some time just taking it all in. The son of one of our residents came to talk to me, he was in awe of what had been achieved, of the transformation. He certainly bought a tear to my eye when he said ‘this is amazing, my mum will love sitting out here and so will the grand children when we visit. This is more than most other places would do. Thank you’.
