Lucy
Home Manager
Lucy has been working in care for 11 years and the last 10 years of that she has been a Senior Carer. She has a National Vocational Qualification in Care at Level 2 and 3 and Level 5 in Leadership and Management. Lucy has worked for Cedars Care Group since joining in March 2014 and has been the Manager since March 2015.
Lucy is very passionate about dementia care. ‘We try varied techniques to engage and stimulate our residents,’ says Lucy, who actively engages all the staff at Cedarwood House and the Derwent in promoting good practice within the home. Her mission: to significantly improve the quality of life of our dementia residents.
‘It isn’t uncommon for us to meet new residents who have a history of isolation,’ explains Lucy, ‘or challenging behaviour due to their dementia. Yet within a few weeks we find ourselves engaging with that resident and have begun to make a marked and positive difference to their life! Nothing makes me happier than when we have such a breakthrough. Those are the times when I can leave at the end of the day with a smile on my face.’
Lucy’s vision for Derwent Care Home is for it to be the best home it can possibly be, ‘and for us to continue to change with the times to provide the highest standard of care,’ she says. She is confident that her team will achieve this. ‘Working for Cedars Care Group means that we always have full support from the other homes and we are all a part of the team.’
