Embracing Autumn at Ellenborough Nursing Home
As autumn gains momentum and the leaves begin to turn, residents at our North Somerset care home, Ellenborough, have been keeping busy with some arts and crafts that celebrate the season. This month, the wonderful colours of our garden inspired us to make autumn themed table decorations to brighten up meal times.
Guiding the activity was Elenborough Administrator Mel, who assisted Betty, Anne and Margaret as they worked. Sourcing the natural materials for our decorations was enjoyable in itself, allowing us appreciate the various colours, shapes and textures of the leaves and conkers. Then we really go our creative juices flowing as we took our time putting them all together in an arrangement of leaves, conkers, porcelain hedgehogs, and decorative brass balls.
This activity was a hit all around, as even residents who didn’t take part thoroughly enjoyed the decorations come dinner time. Meaningful activities are a fundamental part of day-to-day life at Cedars Care Group Homes. They are vital for the wellbeing of seniors, and those living with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Art and creativity are very popular on our list of spiritual and therapeutic activities with great benefits to residents. Just some of the benefits include:
- Stimulation and engagement
- Encouragement and motivation
- Therapeutic and calming
