There is an excellent team of carers and nurses who I can see actually "care" about the residents and relatives. I feel very fortunate to have found such a great environment for my mother to be looked after in.

The lady who looks after the activities is excellent so we as a family are very happy to say to others this home is both caring and safe. My mother is happy so we are all happy.

Cedarwood House: This is Why We Do Our Job

Last Saturday, staff at Cedarwood House Care Home made a breakthrough with one of our new residents. Luckily, his carers got to capture the joyful moment in a special video for his wife.

As he lip-synchs to Andy Williams’ Moon River with such enthusiasm, it isn’t immediately obvious that the gentleman here is mute. But that isn’t the reason why he rarely communicates. Since he arrived at Cedarwood House, he’s been emotionally unresponsive and reluctant to accept care. Preferring isolation, he required a lot of encouragement to eat and drink. For weeks, our carers at Cedarwood House have been trying for bring him out of himself. They’ve also been supporting his wife, who visits regularly and has been finding her husband’s transition into care emotionally challenging.

But last Saturday, while singing along to Moon River something changed. There has been a definite improvement in his mood since. While the progress he’s been making has given his wife reassurance that she made the right decision with regards to putting her husband into care.

Though we were asked to not disclose names, we were given permission by the featured gentleman and his wife to share the video. This one comes with a mascara warning.

At Cedars Care Group, we believe that every individual has his/her own story to tell. We make it our business to get to know the people we care for personally, by spending time with them. This is how we are able to provide the highest quality in person-centred care.
